Marki Microwave Demonstrates High-OIP2 Suppression Amplifier at EuMW 2026
At EuMW 2026, everything RF met Del Pierson from Marki Microwave, who demonstrated the company’s high-OIP2 suppression amplifier, designed to provide improved second-order linearity compared with conventional driver amplifiers. Marki Microwave presented a live comparison between its standard high-linearity driver amplifier and an amplifier specifically designed for high output second-order intercept point (OIP2) performance. The demonstration highlighted how the company’s suppression amplifier achieves substantially higher OIP2 while maintaining similar gain characteristics.
European Microwave Week (EuMW) 2026, held from 4–9 October in London, brought together companies and engineers from the RF, microwave, mmWave, and radar industries to showcase developments in high-frequency technology.
High-OIP2 Suppression Amplifier Demonstration
During the demonstration, Marki Microwave used a test circuit that generated two RF signals and directed them through two separate amplifier paths. One path incorporated the company’s standard high-linearity driver amplifier, while the other used its high-OIP2 suppression amplifier. Both amplifiers exhibited similar gain characteristics, although their third-order intercept point (IP3) performance differed slightly. The primary focus of the demonstration was the difference in their second-order intercept point (IP2) characteristics.
The standard driver amplifier demonstrated an OIP2 of approximately 36 dBm, while the high-OIP2 suppression amplifier achieved approximately 76 dBm. This represents a 40 dB improvement in OIP2 performance compared with the standard driver amplifier under the demonstrated conditions. The results highlighted the difference between an amplifier designed primarily for high linearity and one specifically optimized for suppressing second-order distortion. While both amplifier paths provided comparable gain, the high-OIP2 design delivered significantly improved second-order intercept performance.
Marki Microwave identified direct-sampling systems as one of the applications that can benefit from this higher OIP2 performance. The company also indicated that the amplifier is suitable for a variety of other RF applications requiring improved second-order linearity.
The high-OIP2 suppression amplifiers are currently available for customers.
