The 8401-16E from Spectrum Control is a 16×16 Butler Matrix that operates from 2.4 to 7.125 GHz. It is a reciprocal beamforming network that distributes signals from any input port to all output ports with predetermined amplitude and progressive phase relationships while maintaining high isolation, excellent amplitude and phase accuracy, and low insertion loss. The matrix provides progressive phase shifts for transmit beamforming and reciprocal receive beam combining. It is based on a modular microstrip architecture.

The 8401-16E provides more than 10 dB of isolation and has an insertion loss of less than 20 dB (verify this value against the datasheet, as it appears unusually high). It can handle an RF input power of up to 37 dBm, has a VSWR of less than 2.20:1, and provides a phase accuracy better than ±16°. This Butler matrix is available in a module measuring 304.80 × 188.96 × 43.69 mm and has SMA (female) connectors. It is ideal for antenna array beamforming, MIMO testing, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, and 4G/5G systems, link and multipath simulation, throughput testing, and interferometer system simulation.
