Calian GNSS Introduces the Professional Grade TW170 Lightning Arrestor

OTTAWA, September 16, 2024 – Calian GNSS (Formerly Tallysman® Wireless Inc.) is excited to announce the professional grade TW170 GNSS full-band surge protector, or lightning arrestor to its industry leading line of GNSS accessories. The lightning arrestor supports GPS/QZSS-L1/L2/L5, QZSS-L6, GLONASS-G1/G2/G3, BeiDou-B1/B2/B2a/B3, Galileo-E1/E5a/E5b/E6, NavIC-L5, and L-Band correction service frequencies.

The TW170 provides a continuous DC power path, from the GNSS receiver through the lightning arrestor to the antenna, while protecting the receiver from high-voltage strikes. Using a highly tuned design based on a Gas Discharge Tube (GDT), the TW170 can mitigate a surge current of up to 20 kA, effectively isolating the receiver from damaging electrical currents caused by lightning strikes or static discharge on the GNSS antenna. Calian’s TW170 offers best in-class performance with respect to connectivity, input and output VSWR, and low transmission losses. Mechanically, the TW170 is packaged in a robust, compact, and waterproof (IP67) corrosion-resistant stainless-steel housing that supports both TNC and N connectors. Mounting and grounding cables are also provided with the TW170.
