CMX918 Front End Module by CML Microcircuits
The CMX918 from CML Micro is a Multi-Mode Software-Defined Radio (SDR) Tuner that operates from 150 kHz to 108 MHz. It is a flexible RF front-end processor designed for small-form-factor, low-power SDR receivers. This tuner is based on a low-IF architecture and comprises multiple components, including a DSP, an FPGA, fractional-N/pilot signal PLLs, Ferrite rod antennas, ADCs, a VCO, power management, and interfaces. It supports a configurable receive path with adjustable gain, IF bandwidth, and center frequency capabilities. This tuner provides a power gain of up to 18.9 dB (HF), an IMD of 56.9 dB, and a phase noise of -131 dBc/Hz (at a 10 kHz offset).
The CMX918 implements specific demodulation, protocol decoding, and audio processing functions required by the application and allows reception of AM, FM, DRM, and DRM+ signals. This SDR tuner uses software to directly implement SSB, NAVDAT , and other specialised protocols for configurability, and can be controlled remotely via I2C, SPI, and C-BUS interfaces. This tuner’s power management block allows unused circuit blocks to be powered off when not in use, thereby minimizing overall current consumption. It requires a DC supply of 2.9 to 3.6 V and consumes less than 200 mA of current. This tuner is available in a VQFN32 package that measures 5 x 5 mm. It is ideal for battery-powered SDR receivers, IF processors, smartphone accessories, and in-car entertainment.
