Taoglas Introduces Multi-Band GNSS Passive Patch Antenna to Achieve Optimal Positioning Accuracy

Taoglas has developed a new multi-band GNSS passive patch antenna designed for optimum positioning accuracy. The Inception Series – HP5354.A, utilizes an innovative ceramic patch within a patch antenna design with optimized gain for GPS L1/L5, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou bands. This ground-breaking design allows customers to integrate a multi-band L1/L5 GNSS patch into devices where this would not have been possible before due to height constraints. At only 4 mm in height, the HP5354 can be used in a variety of applications where typical stacked patch designs are very tall. Typical applications include wearables, navigation, precision agriculture, compact asset trackers, autonomous vehicles, and robotics.

The HP5354.A has been tuned and tested on a 70 x 70 mm ground plane and exhibits excellent radiation patterns. This RHCP-polarized antenna provides a peak gain of up to 2.61 dBi with a directional radiation pattern and an efficiency of 52.6%. It has an axial ratio of 1.90 dB.

If customers require an easy-to-integrate active electronic circuit for the HP5354.A, the Taoglas TFM.100B can be designed onto the device PCB alongside the antenna. The module features a SAW/LNA/SAW/LNA topology in both the low and high-band signal paths to prevent unwanted out-of-band interference from overdriving the GNSS LNAs or receiver. The SAW filters have been carefully selected and placed to provide excellent out-of-band rejection while also maintaining a low noise figure.

This antenna is available in a ceramic housing that measures 35 x 35 x 4 mm.
