Announcing the Outdoor Sensor System (OSS) Product Line

Tibbo is excited to introduce the Outdoor Sensor System (OSS), their new line of weatherproof wireless sensors. OSS targets building automation, smart city, precision agriculture, and infrastructure monitoring applications. With OSS, you can create a sensor network that covers a floor, a building, a site, a city, or an entire country.

OSS versatility is unmatched. See for yourself:

– Flexible Installation: OSS devices are wall- and pole-mountable.

– Broad Sensor Compatibility: OSS products will be offered with many types of onboard sensors and can talk to external Modbus sensors as well. Tell us about your sensing needs—we’ll be happy to discuss them with you!

– Flexible Сloud Connectivity: Cloud uplink options include Wi-Fi and LTE. At present, the OSS is compatible with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub, but it can be adapted to work with other public or private cloud services. The product supports two-way cloud communications, enabling data uploads and remote management of OSS devices, including the over-the-air (OTA) firmware upgrades from the cloud.

– Multiple Powering Options: OSS can be powered by a long-lasting internal battery or an external source. OSS devices can also provide power to attached Modbus sensors.

– Protection From the Elements: Capitalizing on decades of experience in developing high-reliability electronics, the OSS was crafted for continuous operation in harsh environments. The product conforms to IP68 specifications* and is fully self-contained, with even the antennas placed inside the water- and dust-proof enclosure.

– Security by Design: Physical security is paramount to any outdoor installations. OSS devices have no exposed buttons. All on-site (close-range) device management requires NFC authentication, performed via the OSS Companion app. As a theft prevention measure, the device offers an anchoring point for a steel wire loop.

– Field Serviceability a Key Design Consideration: OSS’ innovative mechanical structure facilitates a quick swap of the internal battery or the entire electronics subassembly without dismantling the device or disconnecting any external wiring. The Sensor Pod carrying onboard sensors can also be swapped out for repairs and calibration. If the OSS’ internal battery is depleted, you can bring the device back to life with a standard USB power bank. For this purpose, OSS units feature a magnetic auxiliary power port (a magnetic USB power cable is included with your OSS).

The OSS Companion app facilitates convenient on-site (close-range) device management. The app:

  • Provides NFC authentication and password management
  • Enables OSS configuration via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
  • Supports on-site over-the-air (OTA) firmware updates via BLE

– Ready for Deployment: OSS products are supplied with fully functional firmware and are ready to run as soon as you turn them on and configure a few basic parameters** via the OSS Companion app.

Sampling Now! Visit the OSS page to learn more about the product.

  • If an OSS device has onboard sensors, its Sensor Pod is partially exposed to the elements while the rest of the device is IP68-compliant. Modbus versions are fully protected.
  • Connection to cloud services other than Microsoft Azure IoT Hub requires updating the device’s firmware. Contact us to discuss your cloud connectivity needs.
