A Practical Access Control Tutorial

Tibbo’s access control tutorial series is designed to show you how to build a real-world solution using AppBlocks. The first project is a perfect starting point, demonstrating how to grant or deny access based on a user database.

Even if you don’t have a physical kit, they’ve got you covered. The projects can be tested using Tibbo’s CloudADK, which provides a virtual reader and LEDs to see the system in action.

How It Works

The core of this project is the On Wiegand event block, which outputs a card’s ID code. This code is then compared against a data table using the Table Lookup block.

• If the card is found: The door is unlocked for a set duration, configured through settings.
• If the card isn’t found: The door remains locked.

You can configure all project settings and edit the user database through your device’s web interface, making it easy to manage your system.

Wiegand readers and Tibbit #08

Most card readers on the market use the Wiegand interface. To make integration seamless, Tibbo offers a special Tibbit #08 for these readers.

The AppBlocks Demo Kit (ADK) is already equipped with this hardware, allowing you to easily get started. The tutorial includes a wiring diagram to guide you through connecting a typical reader to Tibbit #08.
