Ezurio RS26x Is RED Cyber-Ready – What That Means for Ezurio Customers
Ezurio takes security very seriously. It’s woven into everything Ezurio does, and not as an afterthought. That helped Ezurio certify the RS26x LoRaWAN sensors, and it helps Ezurio customers on the road to their own RED Cyber compliance.
Ezurio RS26x Is RED Cyber-Ready – What That Means for Ezurio Customers
Security-First Design as the Ezurio Advantage and Offering
Recently, Ezurio received certification of compliance to RED-DA 2022/30 for the RS261 sensor, a compliancy milestone in Ezurio’s strategic path toward RED compliance for all applicable offerings in the Ezurio portfolio. Customers who have been following the EU’s evolving legislation will know that RED Cyber requirements have already taken effect as of August of 2025, with the upcoming requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act taking effect in September 2026 and December 2027.
Navigating regulatory compliance is always a challenge for OEMs, and this new legislation is uncharted territory for anyone looking to export into the EU. That’s why the Ezurio RS26x, built on the broader Ezurio security strategy and closely aligned with customer needs, is the perfect candidate for Ezurio’s first end-product to achieve RED Cyber compliance.
Ezurio has been planning for RED Cyber for over a year, with the intention to better understand compliance to this legislation and to be able to extend that expertise to customers. In the process, Ezurio went above and beyond the minimum approach to ensure the security architecture was clear, available, testable, and fully exposed to Ezurio’s compliance test partners so that Ezurio can confidently lead customers through the same. This isn’t just about one product: it’s about Ezurio’s value as a compliance partner to customers who depend on Ezurio’s expertise, now and in the future.
Ezurio’s Route to RED Cyber Compliance
To secure compliance for the RS26x series (in this case, in particular, the RS261 which operates in EU LoRaWAN frequencies), Ezurio worked with a third-party partner. There are two phases to securing RED compliance:
Assessment: The initial phase where Ezurio documents and describes the security architecture and available customer-facing documents to ensure that the security mechanisms are functional and as-described, as well as fully clear and usable by the end user. This is coordinated with the assessment team within a third-party partner’s test house and results in an Assessment Report.
Certification: After the Assessment Report is generated, it’s provided to the certification team within the third-party partner’s test house. This team is deliberately kept separate with only limited contact with the assessment team. This ensures a blind verification of the assessment and an unbiased approach to validate the initial findings of the assessment report.
As with any first, Ezurio was able to take advantage of the process for some valuable lessons learned that further aid Ezurio’s continued approach to RED Cyber compliance. Ezurio’s work with the assessment team gave insight into the documentation requirements that must be presented to the end user. These best practices go forward with Ezurio into future assessments.
Additionally, the RS26x needed a gateway to interface with for the assessment, and Ezurio provided the RG1xx LoRaWAN gateway for this portion of the process. This furthered Ezurio’s efforts by providing a natural introduction to this gateway to compliance partners and will further speed future development efforts in certification of the RG1xx. It also provides further insight into Ezurio’s overall security architecture and approach.
Along with all of this, Ezurio provided the full suite of software and hardware tools and exposed all features (such as data encryption, firmware updating, and more) to validate each and every security-critical process for inspection and approval. This in-depth analysis will help with future Ezurio assessments, as it’s all part of the overall Ezurio approach that applies to past and future packaged products Ezurio provides.
Once assessed, the certification team was able to take all of these same tools and hardware elements to validate the results of the assessment report. They reviewed and validated hardware and software functionality, product documentation, product labeling, BOMs, schematics, and more in order to ensure that the RS261 met high standards. Another element here is traceability: those product labels must be detailed and accurate in identifying the product’s compliance to the end user.
Above and Beyond: Does Your Manufacturer Do That?
Only the assessment phase is strictly required for EN18031 compliance. In pursuing the full RED Cyber certification, Ezurio provides customers more than just a suggestion of compliance. Ezurio is able to provide this validation as a value-add to customers, which they can take into their markets and applications with certainty that the device they’re using has been pre-assessed in a rigorous manner by a trusted authority.
Additionally, this certification provides customers a cleaner route forward as future security standards are enforced. As previously mentioned, the implementation of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) is still looming in 2026 and 2027. Other countries are also working on and implementing security requirements as a global push toward security awareness picks up steam.
Certification to RED Cyber today will ease compliance to CRA and other standards in the future. The RS26x (as well as Ezurio as a hardware/security solution provider) is better positioned for the future with the full certification of this product and Ezurio’s underlying approach. This is what Ezurio offers to customers – not just regulatory-ready hardware, but a holistic approach customers can trust when it comes to implementing their own products and seeking regulatory approval.
